Police in Ibanda District are investigating the murder of a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer whose body was found by passersby abandoned in a trench.
The deceased has been identified as Sergeant Michael Anguru, a native of Katakwi District, who was stationed at Kanyarugiri Army Barracks in Kanyarugiri Town Council, Ibanda District.
Maj. Kiconco Tabaro, the spokesperson for the UPDF 2nd Infantry Division, confirmed the officer’s death, stating that the army is collaborating closely with the police force in the investigation to arrest the perpetrators.
Tabaro stated that preliminary investigations indicate that Sgt. Anguru was last seen around midday on Sunday with a colleague during what seemed to be their routine engagement.
Shillah Ainembabazi, a bar attendant at Lords Care Bar and Lodges along Mpiira Street, said he saw the deceased around 10 PM looking for accommodation. She was surprised when told by neighbors about Anguru’s death.
Samuel Ndyaguma, the chairperson of LC1 Bubare cell, says he got a call from residents on the incident involving Anguru, who was frequently seen at the Bubare trading centre.
Rwizi Region Police spokesman Samson Kasasira, said Anguru’s body was taken to Kagongo Health Center IV for post-mortem as investigations into the murder under way.
