Uganda Ladies Shine as South Africa Snatch Men’s Crown from Uganda at Ultimate African Pool Championship

Uganda’s women’s pool team reaffirmed their dominance on the African stage, walloping aside Namibia 13–1 to retain the Ultimate African Pool Championship title at eBundu Lodge in Mpumalanga, South Africa

The Ugandan ladies, who fielded two teams in the main draw, were dominant throughout the tournament.
In the singles, 2022 African champion Rukia Naiga produced a splendid display to win both the Life One and Life Two finals against teammate and captain Amina Faith Nganda In the process,Naiga who is a former Nile Special open champion earned herself the Women’s MVP award.

“I’m grateful for this performance. Facing my teammates was tough, but it’s always an honour to win for Uganda,” said Naiga, who now targets her second national open crown in December.

Meanwhile, Uganda’s men came mightily close to continental glory, falling 13–12 to hosts South Africa in a tense final. The Ugandans led 10–8 before the home side rallied, with Thami Jabavu defeating Azali Lukomwa in the decisive frame to secure South Africa’s first men’s team title.

“This was a big moment for us. Uganda is always a tough side, but we kept believing,” said Joseph Aden, who was named Men’s MVP.

Uganda’s stand-in captain Joseph Kasozi praised his side despite the narrow loss:
“We gave it everything. Losing by one frame is painful, but I’m proud of the team’s fight.”
