Police in the Mt Moroto region are investigating two separate murders in Nakapiripirit and Moroto districts.
The first incident took place on the 20th July, when a 42-year-old woman, identified as Lotipo Logit, was assaulted by a group of young men in Awemujju village, Nadunget sub-county, Moroto District.
It is alleged that the victim was assaulted when she intervened in an attempted kidnapping of an 18-year-old girl. She later succumbed to her injuries on Thursday.
The unidentified men were targeting to abduct a girl for forced marriage, which is one of the harmful cultural practices that have continued violating the rights of girls in Karamoja.
Similarly, on Thursday, a 17-year-old boy, Achuka Sande, was allegedly killed by Loumo Ekudo Mariko in Nabatta Village, Loasam Parish, Loreng sub-county, Nakapiripirit District.
The suspect allegedly attacked Sande after receiving information that he had attempted to defile his 7-year-old daughter.
Mike Longole, the Mt Moroto regional police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the case files have been registered and both investigations are ongoing.
Longole said that Mariko was apprehended as the investigations kicked off, while the men who assaulted the woman are still at large.
