Suspected armed Karamojong warriors have attacked the Mutunan gold mining camp, killing one person and injuring others in Timu Sub-County, Kaabong district.

The attack occurred on Wednesday at around 8:00 PM. The deceased has been identified as Lokonyang Looru, aged 40 years, from Lokali village in Kathile Sub County, while Ebenyo Longoli, a 25-year-old resident of Loyoro Sub County, was injured in the right upper arm and shoulder.

Preliminary information reveals that unknown suspected warriors believed to be from the Dodoth cluster in Kaabong district attacked the mining camp and shot the two people before fleeing the scene.

Mike Longole, the Mt Moroto regional police spokesperson, said that they have arrested one suspect identified as Lowale Lotudorot to assist with the ongoing investigations.

He said that the authorities are working to determine the motives behind the attack.

Longole emphasised that the safety and security of the mining camp and surrounding communities are of utmost importance, and measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
