The police in Busia district have launched a manhunt for suspected armed robbers for allegedly raiding the home of Kennedy Wanyama, the NUP’s Busia Municipality parliamentary candidate.
Thugs armed with machetes, an axe, and iron bars reportedly attacked on Friday night the home of Kennedy Wanyama, located in Buwuma B village in Dabani sub-county, and robbed 5 million shillings.
There was another robbery on the same night at the home of Buhobe SS head teacher, Deogracious Mugeni, located in Sibarara village.
The police officer attached to Busia central police station, Tony Acute, said that they got the information of a robbery and visited the crime scene with a police dog. The dog led them to the house, whose occupants were not found.
Kennedy Wanyama said that armed thugs jumped into his compound through the fence, attacking him at around 1:00 am, and broke into the house.
He said he heard people banging at his door shutters, only to notice they were breaking down his house using an axe. Wanyama and the family members decided to hide in the bathroom to secure their lives.
Wanyama said that upon entering the house, the thugs demanded money and asked him to quit politics. They only took five million shillings..
The Buhobe SS head teacher, Deogracious Mugeni, says that he was attacked by the armed Robbers at 2:00 am, they stole 4 smartphones and an unspecified amount of money that was in the house.
According to Mugeni, he saw the torchlight at his main door shutters, then shortly heard someone banging at the door shutters using an axe. He fled through the window and started making an alarm while running to attract neighbours to intervene.
Iddi Muhammad Kibaki, the LC 3 chairman Western division, says that he received information about their NUP candidates at 2:00 pm and rushed home immediately. He found that robbery had been committed.
Kibaki attributes the robbery to political differences and appeals to his supporters to remain firm.
Yesse Opio, the Buwuma B village chairperson, said that cases of armed robbery are becoming rampant in the area and appealed to the head of security to intensify night police patrols in the area.
By the time of filling this story is filed, no arrest has been made yet by the police as the investigation is ongoing.
