As she fights for her life in a Kenyan hospital, the ailing Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende’s political strength and popularity has continued to manifest.

In her absence, supporters and foot soldiers who believe she has done her best in her first term as MP and deserves a 2nd chance, have produced campaign posters and displayed them across Kampala even before nominations.

This means that the Kampala woman MP flag bearer position is already Shamim Malende’s even before the party primaries by NUP are held. It means that supporters want the seat ring-fenced for her so that no one is able to compete with her inside NUP.

Branding her a mole from NRM, such foot soldiers that are pro-Malende have advised new kid on the block Winfred Nakandi, an ex of some sort for Kyagulanyi, to go and seek the ruling party ticket and leave NUP issues to them since she has no history in the struggle of the foot soldiers.

Malende’s supporters want NUP to treat her humanely with some sympathy because of what she is going through and deploy KCCA speaker Zahara Luyulika in Makindye west and princess Euginia Nassolo to stand in Lubaga south.

This paves way for Shamim Malende, whose posters are already up everywhere in Kampala, to stand as the sole candidate for NUP for the job of Kampala woman MP, a seat that was bequeathed to her by her mentor Nabillah Nagayi. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
