Security has been beefed up in Kasese district ahead of the fourth edition of the Rwenzori Theluji Festival.
This year’s festival will take place on Saturday, starting with the Mt. Rwezori Tusker Lite marathon as a major highlight.
The festival is a showcase of the uniqueness of biodiversity in and around Kasese towards enhancing tourism. The Rwenzori Theluji Festival, which translates to “snow” in Swahili, aims to showcase the unique biodiversity in and around Kasese.
The Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumuhsiime, says that athletes from different national and international camps have already arrived in the district, and they will be inspecting the marathon routes.
To ensure the safety of both the athletes and the anticipated fans, Tumushiime said they are heightening patrols and carrying out security meetings with various groups of people, including leaders and hotel owners.
Tumushiime said they are also beefing up the district traffic team, aware that the event is expected to attract many people.
Stephen Masaba, the Director of Tourism and Business Development at the Uganda Wildlife Authority, has urged Ugandans to become tourists in their tourism sites.
