Twenty police officers heading for United Nations Mission in South Sudan on Friday completed their preparatory training at Police’s ICT Research and Innovation Centre in Wakiso District.

“You are our ambassadors as Uganda police force. We expect you to manifest integrity while executing this mission’s duties. Exhibit high levels of discipline and be alert and work as a team,” Okoth said.

A similar message of discipline and alertness was recently given to soldiers already on mission by Brig Gen Anthony Lukwago Mbuusi, the Joint Task Force Commander, while briefing the forces on their combat readiness and professional conduct.

“I remind you that discipline remains a core value of the UPDF and is essential to the success of the mission. I thank you for stabilizing South Sudan, but I also encourage you to embrace financial prudence,” Brig Gen Mbuusi said.

Ugandan troops in South Sudan have also been cautioned on the of use social media because misuse could damage their personal reputation and jeopardies operational security.

Forces loyal to Salvar Kiir as well Ugandan troops on mission are on high alert as there are fears of a possible resumption of full-scale civil war because of charging Machar with treason and murder offences.

South Sudan has been embroiled in an internal conflict because of differing ideologies between President Salva Kiir and his first Vice President Riek Machar.

While the two sides signed a peace deal in 2018, their disagreements resumed in February this year and Kiir called on President Yoweri Museveni to protect his government.

In response, Uganda People’s Defence Forces –UPDF deployed in March and have largely been in charge of key installations. Uganda Police Force (UPF) have reminded the officers who are headed for the mission to be prepared for any eventualities.
