Police in Nakaseke are investigating an attack on the district Vice Chairperson, Richard Mavuma, who is recovering from injuries sustained during an assault by unknown individuals on Monday night. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. at the entrance of Mavuma’s home in Katale zone, Semuto Town Council.
The Village LC1 Chairperson, Paul Jjuuko, explained that thugs smashed the windows with a large stick before dragging Mavuma and beating him. The victim raised an alarm, attracting neighbors who came to his aid, while the assailants fled into nearby bushes. “The motive remains unclear as nothing was stolen, not even the cash or his car,” Jjuuko said.
Reports indicate that Mavuma had 33 million shillings in the car at the time of the attack. “We don’t know whether this was politically motivated or an attempted robbery that failed,” he added. Mavuma sustained multiple injuries to his head, face, and right arm. He was treated at Josiah Medical Center and later discharged.
Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima said investigators are recording statements from Mavuma and witnesses to determine the circumstances behind the attack. “At the moment, our officers are on the ground investigating the matter. A statement will be released later,” Twiineamazima said. Detectives from Semuto Police Station were still taking Mavuma’s statement as of the time of reporting.
