The Directorate of Crime Intelligence (DCI) has launched a manhunt for three suspected thugs who attacked and robbed a Counter-Terrorism (CT) police officer in the early hours of Wednesday morning along the Kasangati-Kira Road.
Sergeant Stephen Ngobi was reportedly attacked at around 5:00 am as he waited for a boda-boda to transport him to his workstation. According to police records, the assailants approached him from behind, grabbed him by the neck, and overpowered him before making off with all his belongings, including a government-issued pistol (UG POL 006764-26610) loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
In his statement recorded at Kasangati Police Station, Sgt Ngobi reported that the attackers stole two mobile phones, a CT Technical uniform shirt, a pair of handcuffs, and a bag. He sustained injuries during the assault.
The incident was brought to the attention of the police by Police Constable Deus Agabarugaba, who is attached to Stone Ridge Primary School in Nsasa, Kira Municipality. With the help of other officers, PC Agabarugaba rushed Sgt Ngobi to Kasangati Health Centre for medical treatment.
The case was registered at Kasangati Police Station under SD REF 56/25/2026. A team led by the Kasangati Division Police Commander visited the scene and documented it as investigations commenced.
Police reports indicate that Sgt Ngobi had left his residence at 5:00 am and was dressed in civilian attire at the time of the attack. The three suspects allegedly restrained him by the neck before assaulting and robbing him.
Authorities are now actively pursuing the suspects, particularly due to the theft of the force’s firearm and ammunition, which heightens security concerns in the area. Efforts to obtain a comment from the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson were unsuccessful by press time.
