More than 2,000 persons in Kagadi have expressed interest in being recruited as Special police constables to police the upcoming elections.
Kagadi District Police Commander, SP Ameru Philemon, confirmed that a total of 2,034 applicants from across Kagadi District applied for the positions. He urged the candidates to remain disciplined, cooperative, and patriotic as they seek to serve the country during the election period.
DPC Joseph Ayesiga said the exercise went on successfully and that about 440 applicants are expected to be selected for a one-month training, which will commence after the shortlisting process and precede deployment during the 2026 general elections.
Kibaale Resident District Commissioner Steven Byaruhanga Nfashingabo urged the applicants to remain disciplined and perform their duties diligently once selected.
He noted that successful candidates will proceed to a screening stage before undergoing training, which is planned to last one to two weeks at designated police training institutions, before deployment.
Meanwhile, in neighboring Kikuube District, DPC SP Abel Barugahare said interviews that began on Wednesday are progressing smoothly. He revealed that out of 826 applicants, 745 have already been attended to, and the exercise will close on Friday.
He encouraged successful applicants to serve with commitment and discipline, and advised those who may not make it to remain hopeful for future opportunities.
