The minister of internal affairs, Kahinda Otafiire has given the green light for Busoga One radio to proceed with their annual end of year festival, following earlier cancellation by the Jinja resident city commissioner, Richard Gulume.
Gulume issued a letter directing the manager of Busoga one radio, Innocent Anyole to halt their annual music festival, codenamed “Endigito mudido, tunga, ntunge,”, which is slated for tomorrow, 07th, December, 2025.
In his letter signed 05th, December, 2025, Gulume noted that, their extensive counter intelligence assessment meetings revealed security threats, imploring them to cancel the festival.
Gulume further advised the radio management to immediately halt the music festival and preferably organize it on another date after elections.
The RCC’s letter read: “As it is the normal security practice, in compliance with IGP’s guidelines, an extended city security committee meeting was convened on 04th/12/25 involving the RPC Kiira and the RISO North Busoga at the RPC’s office to discuss the Joint Intelligence Committee-JIC security assessment report. The security committee resolved that in light of noted prevailing threats, the organizers be advised to postpone the concert to another date, preferably after elections. (Minute CSC 06/04/12/25).”
On recieving the letter yesterday morning, the radio’s managing direct, Paul Mwiru petitioned the minister of internal affairs, protesting the cancellation of their music festival.
Their letter entailed how they had fulfilled all the security protocols in consultation with the police, geared towards prioritizing safety of the fans throughout the festival.
In his letter written to the IGP, Otafiire firstly acknowledged receipt of Mwiru’s petition on behalf of Busoga one radio limited, detailing how they have canceled their event, citing security threats resulting from this political season.
Otafiire however cleared the event to proceed amidst the political season as a means of allowing equitable political space for all. “The reason to stop this event is because this is a political period; I want to guide that the event should be allowed to take place; In this political period, political statements are not banned and we must be seen to allow political space,” reads his letter in part.
Meanwhile, Anyole says that, this event offers them an opportunity to directly interact with their fans, whom they serve for a whole year without any interfaces.
Anyole says that, apart from edutainment, the event offers space for business operators to freely sell their goods to thousands of fans gathered in one location.
