Some National Unity Platform supporters, including the Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana have been have been arrested near the Electoral Commission nomination grounds off old Entebbe Road at Lweza.
Also said to be arrested are journalists who allegedly crossed the Entebbe Road checkpoint during the mix-up caused by the entry of candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, but did not have clearance tags.
Those arrested are yet to be identified. The mobile security Van in which they were bundled has been driven towards the direction of Kajjansi police station. It is not clear why Ssewanyana was picked up as he approached the checkpoint from the Kampala direction.
He was apparently not part of Kyagulanyi’s entourage since the official convoy came from the Kajjansi side, having used the Entebbe Expressway from Kampala.
Several people had already been picked up at different locations and were taken to Kajjansi Police Station, on suspicion of intending to cause chaos, according to the police officers at the scene.
