The war between Buganda leadership at Mengo on one hand and the NUP foot soldiers and bloggers on the other may end into bloodshed.
Kavule supporters are bitter that anti-Kyagulanyi Baganda political analysts have been given the platform on CBS to cricize the NUP presidential candidate’s decision to visit Obote’s grave in Akokoro Apac district.
Led by Fred Lumbuye of Turkey, Ismail Lubega of Kibibi and lord councilor Faridah Nakabugo, Kyagulanyi’s foot soldiers have declared full blown war on Mengo.
Tik tok bully Fred Lumbuye says that Abbey Mukiibi and Kawooya Mwebe both managers of CBS are on Salim Saleh’s payroll and are facilitated to undermine Kyagulanyi, in favour of Museveni.
Lumbuye, who is the defacto spokesperson for Kyagulanyi in the diaspora, has started a daily campaign to decampaign the Buganda kingdom’s annual end of year concert called enkuuka.
He says Baganda shouldn’t attend it because its being sponsored by Salim Saleh’s OWC and MTN Uganda.
He says MTN is for NRM because it uses yellow color. He claims that Airtel was kicked out because it uses yellow color like that of NUP.
He adds that the large crowd at Enkuuka will be used to force showgoers to wear yellow colors so that the photos and videos can be used to show that NRM has a lot of support in Buganda and has been endorsed by the Kabaka.
He has asked foot soldiers to attack every NUP MP or official who opposes his campaign against the enkuuka concert.
Lumbuye’s talking points have been repeated by Ismail Lubega who is based in Kampala and makes daily tik tok videos.
Some of Kabaka’s supporters have petitioned UCC to get Lubega arrested for using social media to abuse the Kabaka and his officials.
Some of Kyagulanyi’s supporters fear the direct war with Mengo and want the NUP president to come out to denounce and disown both Lumbuye and Lubega.
Faridah Nakabugo, who has the NUP flag to be reelected as NUP lord councilor for Rubaga south, has been reading out names of Kabaka’s and CBS officials who must be discriminated because they hate Kyagulanyi and NUP.
Her list includes CBS senior news reporter Joseph Lukyamuzi and senior producer Alex Nsubuga Katabarwa.
She says that these two have a lot of influence on CBS news and political shows which she says they use to promote Mathias Mpuuga’s DF party while undermining Kyagulanyi.
Nakabugo says its a trecherous act for CBS to give a platform to people who NUP refused to sponsor with its tickets, who come and use Kabaka’s radio to criticize corruption and lack of internal democracy in NUP.
The biggest challenge NUP faces is decampaigning the enkuuka and people end up attending it in big numbers.
That will show that NUP doesn’t have much influence and yet 31st December will be roughly two weeks to the voting day of 15th January 2026. This direct war with Kabaka’s officials at Mengo also risks reducing Kyagulanyi’s votes and overall support in Buganda which he must retain if he is to emerge victorious out of the ballot box of 2021.
In a related development, the Kabaka’s county chief for Butambala called Katambala has resorted to addressing public gatherings where he is openly endorsing PSST Ramathan Goobi’s young brother Eriasa Mukiibi Sserunjogi, a journalist, as the one area residents should vote to replace NUP deputy president Muwanga Kivumbi as the new Butambala county MP.
Eriasa is standing as an independent, which has given him leeway to openly criticize bad government policies more eloquently than even Muwanga Kivumbi. This has endeared him to a large number of voters at Muwanga’s expense.
