Museveni Warns Kagadi Against Tribal Politics

By KT Reporter

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has cautioned residents of Kagadi District against embracing politics based on tribal and religious identity, warning that such politics threaten national unity, peace, and development. Museveni made the remarks on Saturday while addressing a rally at Muhorro BCS Primary School playgrounds in Muhorro Town Council.

He said he had received reports that some politicians in the district were mobilising voters along tribal and religious lines.

The NRM Presidential candidate urged residents to prioritise what he described as “politics of interest, focused on shared development goals, rather than divisive identity-based politics. “Politics based on tribe and religion is dangerous and can cause havoc in a country.”

Museveni warned, adding that such approaches undermine peace and slow socio-economic progress. Museveni also called on the people of Kagadi and the wider Bunyoro sub-region to actively participate in government-led wealth creation programmesas a way of fighting household poverty.

He said that while the government is responsible for providing infrastructure and social services such as roads, electricity, and hospitals, individual citizens must take responsibility for improving their livelihoods through productive economic activities.

The President highlighted several government initiatives aimed at transforming households from subsistence to a money economy, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), and theUganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP).

“Roads, electricity, and hospitals are important, but they do not directly put money in people’s pockets,” Museveni said, noting that wealth comes from engaging in commercial production.

Museveni further tasked the people of Kagadi to actively engage in government-led Wealth creation programs to combat household poverty.

Museveni noted that wealth creation starts at the grassroots level and therefore leaders in the Bunyoro sub-region and Uganda at large should mobilise residents to embrace wealth creation programs.

He explains that, while the government is responsible for infrastructure and social services, individual citizens must take charge of improving their livelihoods through productive ventures.

Museveni explains that several government initiatives aimed at socio-economic transformation and moving households from subsistence to a money economy have been put in place by the government, citing the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), and UWEP, among others.

He says that whereas the government has made strides in Roads, electricity, and hospitals, they do not directly put money in a household’s pocket, saying that personal wealth comes from engaging in commercial production.

Museveni adds that Wealth and jobs can be created in modern agro-production, industries, services, including tourism and hospitality, and Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

Museveni encouraged residents to embrace commercial agriculture, arguing that the region’s fertile land gives it an advantage in boosting household incomes and reducing poverty.

He emphasised that socio-economic transformation is impossible if households remain stuck in subsistence farming.

Museveni also advised the people of Bunyoro to jealously embrace the four-acre model farming method, which he said will unlock economic opportunities and ensure sustainable livelihoods for communities across Uganda.

Museveni noted that the four-acre model would advocate for land diversification, where he said an acre of land should be dedicated to coffee cultivation, another to fruit trees, the third to staple crops for household consumption, and the fourth to pasture for livestock.

Museveni explains that this farming model will allow farmers to also engage in poultry, piggery, and fish farming in ponds, boosting household incomes and lifting families out of poverty in a short period.

Karungi Karukana Mpoza, the Chairman of NRM Kagadi district, appealed to the president to ensure that Kagadi hospital is elevated to Referral hospital to boost effective health service delivery.

He says the district borders the DRC and that some Congolese nationals cross to the district to get health service delivery, hence exerting pressure on the few available drugs and medical supplies.

He also asked the President to tarmac the Muhorro-Kyaterekera-Ndaiga road to boost business between the district and the DRC, adding that the road, which is the only business link between the district and the DRC, has been in a sorry state for long time.

Jonard Asiimwe, the NRM Vice Chairperson for the Western region, tasked the people of Kagadi to embrace peace and unity and support the NRM government.

Annet Anita Among, the speaker of parliament,t says the government has done tremendous projects in the Bunyoro sub-region,n citing the construction of the critical oil roads, Hoima city stadium, Kabalega international airport, among others, and therefore appealed to the people of Kagadi to overwhelmingly vote for NRM Party.
