President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned four new factories at the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park in Mbale City, emphasizing that Uganda’s future lies in industrialization. The President also laid the foundation for the construction of nine additional factories at the park.
The newly commissioned factories include Unisteel Investment Uganda Limited, Nice Textiles Uganda Limited, Xinlon Textile and Garment Technology Co., Ltd, and Timber Paper Industry Uganda Company Limited. Speaking at the commissioning on Friday, President Museveni noted that industrial parks like Mbale are transforming Uganda from “towns of shops” into “towns of industries,” producing goods that were previously imported.
“Industrialization is the surest path to wealth creation, modernization, and mass employment,” Museveni said. “Industries not only create jobs but also strengthen the economy by consuming power and supporting agriculture.” State Minister for Investment and Privatization, Evelyn Anite, commended the President for his consistent drive for industrialization, noting that the initiative has created employment opportunities for many Ugandans. Paul Zhang, Chairman of Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park, praised the government’s support, revealing that more than 10,000 Ugandans are currently employed under the project.
