The Multi-Party Youth Forum (MYF), with support from the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD), has organized a symbolic football tournament aimed at fostering peace and unity among Uganda’s political players. Held at Nyakasanga playgrounds in Kasese Municipality, the match brought together youth representatives from various political parties in a bid to emphasize the value of coexistence and peaceful engagement in Uganda’s electoral processes.

The tournament marked the climax of a two-day peace dialogue organized by MYF in Kasese Municipality on Tuesday and Wednesday, targeting youth political actors and encouraging inter-party dialogue. Lynette Nanyonjo, President of the MYF, said the one-day tournament symbolized togetherness, tolerance, and acceptance of outcomes — values she said should be reflected in national politics.

David Mugara, Programs Manager at NIMD, the official sponsor of the event, stressed the significance of such engagements in nurturing a culture of unity during and after political competitions.

Amos Bacwa, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) National Youth Vice Chairperson for the Western Region, also praised the initiative, saying the tournament demonstrated that unity can prevail during and after elections.

Bacwa, who intends to run for the Kyaka Central parliamentary seat in Kyegegwa District, noted that young people are often manipulated by political actors. He said platforms like this dialogue equip youth with the knowledge to meaningfully participate in political processes and benefit from national decisions.

The tournament featured teams representing different political parties and organizations, including the Democratic Party (DP), People’s Progressive Party (PPP), National Resistance Movement (NRM), Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), among others. The NRM team emerged victorious, beating FDC 2–0 in the final match-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
