The State Minister of Works and Transport, Musa Francis Ecweru, has been defeated in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries for Amuria County by Samuel Ediau.

The hotly contested election marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Amuria, ending Ecweru’s long-standing dominance. Ediau, a former member of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) who defected to the NRM less than two years ago, won with 29,352 votes, while Ecweru garnered 19,977 votes.

‎‎Ediau’s path to this victory has been characterised by persistence and resilience after multiple unsuccessful attempts to challenge Ecweru.

“This victory belongs to the people of Amuria,” Ediau expressed to his jubilant supporters following the announcement. “They have spoken loudly and clearly, and I am honoured to be entrusted with this mandate. I promise to unite our community and fight for development in every corner of this district.”

‎‎Margret Etilu won the Amuria District NRM primaries for the District Woman MP seat with 44,622 votes, far surpassing her closest competitor, Abeja Sarah Specioza, who received 11,958 votes. Ajore Ann Grace followed with 8,952 votes.

‎‎In Orungo County, Teddy Osire Anyuk emerged victorious with 9,975 votes, defeating Amali Solomon (7,804 votes) and Abraham Opio (240 votes).
