A man in Namisindwa District is on the run after allegedly causing the death of his friend following a violent altercation in Buwisoni Village, Kisekele Parish, Bumbo Sub-county. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Badiru Wabuya from Buwisoni Village, is accused of kicking his colleague during a disagreement at a drinking joint, an attack that later led to the victim’s death.
According to eyewitness Simon Wefunya, the deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Ronnie Netambali from Butemulani B Village, Bulwundu Parish, Bumbo Sub-county. He says the two had a disagreement over unknown issues on Sunday while at a drinking spot, when Wabuya kneed Netambali in the abdomen, leaving him seriously injured.
Wefunya adds that the deceased did not die immediately, but later fell ill. On Monday morning, relatives were taking him to Bumbo Health Centre III for treatment after his condition worsened, but he died on the way. Julius Wamele, the area LC1 chairperson, says both the deceased and the suspect had long been involved in excessive drinking and opium smoking after dropping out of school.
He urged parents to guide their children and provide counselling to discourage drug and alcohol abuse, saying such incidents can be prevented. Fred Khisa, the LC1 chairperson of neighbouring Khatosi Village, confirmed that the suspect is currently on the run.
