President Museveni and his NRM campaign taskforce are clearly not taking chances on the next week presidential elections which they are determined to win at every level and in every corner of the country.
In the case of Lango sub region, the NRM has gone as far as deploying four senior ambassadors representing Uganda in countries abroad. They have been received back home to specifically participate in bolstering Museveni’s chances for re-election in their home region.
These include Rebecca Otengo who represents Uganda in Addis Ababa for the AU business, Paul Amoru who represents Uganda as ambassador in south Africa, Dickson Ogwang Okulu who represents Uganda in South Sudan and ambassador Doreen Amulle who represents Uganda in Paris.
Otengo is strong in Alebtong which is her home district, Paul Amoru in Dokolo where he used to be an MP, Ogwang in Kole where he comes from and Amulle in Amolatar where she used to be the woman MP.
The ambassadors are powerful people and when Lango voters see them and think about the big positions they occupy, they feel Museveni loves Lango and they become even more determined to kill him with votes.
Each of the ambassadors has been assigned a district or districts to supervise to ensure that the 63 NRM campaign agents per village have each been facilitated by the district DECs. The 63 have each been assigned to deliver 3 votes for candidate Museveni. The three votes coming from each of the 63 campaigners in the village will be added on those to be delivered through members of PLU and ONC structure in each village, parish and sub county of Uganda.
In the case of Lango, the ambassadors have each been put in touch to work with the bosses at the NRM secretariat to ensure that Museveni’s vote is secured and protected to ensure the big man’s victory isn’t distorted by NUP operatives like they did in 2021.
They also have a duty to ensure that NRM voters aren’t intimidated or made to fear to openly express their support for Museveni and other ruling party flag bearers. The deployment of the ambassadors, who are part of a team of 20 supervisors for the Lango districts, further complicates chances for Robert Kyagulanyi and his backer Jimmy Akena to get enough votes and be able defeat president Museveni in Lango sub region.
It will soon become clear that Akena only promised Kyagulanyi byoya bwa nswa and hot air when he promised him that he was ready to help the NUP candidate beat Museveni in Lango. There is no way Kyagulanyi’s Lango coordinator Isha Otto of Oyam, who recently avoided participating in a public debate in Lira city because he realized he had nothing to tell the people to market his presidential candidate, is going to be able to counter such high level deployment by the NRM camp.
