The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, is set to launch the party’s campaign manifesto today in Jinja District, with a series of mini rallies lined up ahead of the main event.

According to Samuel Akalyamawa, the NUP chairperson for Jinja District, Kyagulanyi’s program will kick off at 10:30 am, beginning with a welcome at the Umbercoat roundabout, where hundreds of supporters are expected to join his convoy. Akalyamawa said Kyagulanyi will first make a stop at Polota Grounds in Kakira Town Council for his opening mini rally.

He will then proceed to Namaganga Trading Centre in Busedde Sub-County, Butembe Constituency, for the second rally, before heading to Buyengo Town Council for the third. His fourth stop will be in Namagera Town Council. Kyagulanyi will later proceed to Kagoma Primary School playground for the day’s major rally, where he is expected to officially launch the NUP manifesto.

Akalyamawa explained that the mini rallies are intended to help Kyagulanyi traverse different constituencies in the Busoga sub-region as part of NUP’s strategy to consolidate support gained during the 2021 general elections. He noted that the party has secured all necessary clearances from the police, Electoral Commission, and venue owners to hold the events without disruptions.

John Odwori, another NUP coordinator in Jinja, said they have been holding harmonization meetings with police and remain optimistic that the activities will proceed peacefully. “We have already briefed our teams to maintain peace and adhere to the set security guidelines to avoid any confrontations with security personnel,” Odwori said.

Meanwhile, Innocent Anyole, the NUP spokesperson for Jinja District, revealed that security authorities directed the party to shift its main rally venue from Buwera Grounds to Kagoma Primary School playground, a change they accepted.
