Police in Kwania District are investigating a tragic incident of domestic violence that escalated into the murder of a 45-year-old man. The incident occurred on the night of Monday, July 7, 2025, in Awei Village, Goi Parish, Atongtidi Sub-county.

According to preliminary police reports, 20-year-old Ronald Obonyo had just returned from a fishing trip when he accused his wife, Oliver Auma, of infidelity. The confrontation quickly turned violent. During the argument, Obonyo’s father, Robert Opio, tried to intervene, but the suspect allegedly turned on him and assaulted him with sticks. Opio lost consciousness and died while being rushed to Aduku Health Centre IV.

Obonyo fled the scene but was later rescued by police to prevent mob justice. He is currently in custody. North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the incident, describing the level of violence as excessive and criminal.

Okema noted that the case was initially registered at Atongtidi Police Post and later transferred to Kwania Central Police Station. He said the suspect is likely to be charged with murder contrary to Sections 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act. He urged members of the public to seek help early when facing relationship challenges and to report any suspicions or threats of violence to the police or local authorities.

By press time, the deceased’s body had been taken to Apac General Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
