Kwania district local government has received 500 million shillings to rehabilitate dilapidated classroom structures in government-aided primary schools.

The fund disbursed to the district by the central government under the school rehabilitation grant will be used to rehabilitate 16 schools out of the 60 government-aided primary schools in the district.

Geoffrey Alex Ogwal Adyebo, Kwania District LCV Chairman said the district has allocated the funds to rehabilitate the dilapidated classroom blocks at Adera Primary School in Chawente Sub County, Okik, Punoatar, Abuli and Aculawic Primary Schools all in Ayabi Sub County, Apire Primary School in Aduku Sub County, Aderolongo Primary School in Akali Sub County, Aduku Boarding and Ikwera Primary School in Aduku town council among others.

Ogwal Adyebo who is also the Secretary Education and Health said part of the fund will also be used to construct five stanches of drainage toilets at Abwong Primary School in Akali Sub County, Teioro Primary School in Abongomola Sub County and Atuma Primary School in Nambieso Sub County among other schools, and each project is costing between 30 to 35 million shillings.

Translation: “We are constructing a classroom block and an office at Adera Primary School. Under rehabilitation, we are renovating Okik Primary School, Punoatar, Abuli and Aculawic Primary School, among other schools. Around 16 schools are being rehabilitated at a tune of 30 to 35 million shillings. We are constructing a latrine at Adwong Primary School.”

The development to finance the rehabilitation of classroom facilities in Kwania comes at a time when most schools in the district had been struggling with dilapidated classroom structures and filled-up pit latrines.

Andrew Omunu, Kwania District Education Officer, confirmed that the department had received the said fund and the rehabilitation works had already commenced in most schools.

Omunu said the planned rehabilitation of the dilapidated schools will go a long way to improve performance in the district.

Jimmy Olanya, the head teacher of Atuma Primary School in Nambieso Sub County, welcomed the development with excitement. Olanya said his school received five stanches of drainable toilets, which are being constructed by Ziden Engineering Limited.

He said the project, which will take three months, had come at the right time to address the latrine shortage at the school and reduce high cases of hygiene-related diseases-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
