The Kitgum Municipal Council has unveiled plans to construct a modern three-storey office complex, a multi-billion shilling project aimed at addressing the council’s current shortage of office space and improving working conditions for staff and clients. Funded through the Discretionary Development Equalization Grant (DDEG), the project comes as the council continues to operate from the former town council building.
According to James Bon Olinga, the Kitgum Municipal Principal Engineer, the design for the office complex has been completed, and costing is underway. The structure will include a council hall accommodating over 264 people, 30 offices, a 50-seater boardroom, and a 30-seater food canteen. Eng. Alexis Abonga, the Kitgum Municipal Superintendent of Works, said the geotechnical analysis and structural drawings have been finalized.
“We are now waiting for the preliminary cost of the project,” he added, noting that the contractor will be procured once the budget is finalized.
Mayor Richard Okwera Ojara emphasized that the project will solve the problem of overcrowded offices, which currently compromises the privacy of both staff and clients.
“This ambitious project marks a new era for Kitgum Municipal Council, demonstrating the council’s commitment to improving infrastructure and service delivery,” he said. The first phase of construction is expected to begin in July.
Eng. Alexis Abonga, the Kitgum Municipal Superintendent of Works, indicated that some funds have been secured to kick-start the work.
