The Kitgum District Local Government has announced a multi-school infrastructure plan worth 239.5 million shillings for the 2025/2026 financial year. The initiative aims to construct key facilities, including teachers’ houses, classrooms, latrines, and learner desks across six public primary schools.
Anthony Lawot Lam, the Kitgum District Education Officer (DEO), said the project responds to critical infrastructure gaps identified after a comprehensive assessment of all 91 public primary schools in the district. Bishop Ochola Primary School in Labongo Akwang Sub-County will receive a teachers’ house valued at 99 million shillings, while Oryang Ojuma Primary School in Labongo Amida Sub-County will get a two-classroom block costing 108 million shillings.
Pajimo Primary School in Labongo Akwang Sub-County will be supplied with 3-seater desks worth 6.5 million shillings. Meanwhile, Lokoropwac Primary School in Orom Sub-County, Bola Primary School in Namokora Sub-County, and Onyala Primary School in Namokora North Sub-County will each receive a 5-stance latrine block, with each project estimated at 22.5 million shillings.
Lawot emphasized that the facilities were chosen to address the most pressing challenges in the beneficiary schools. “This multi-school infrastructure plan reflects our commitment to providing a better learning environment for both learners and teachers. The chosen facilities target real and urgent needs across the district,” he said.
Kitgum District Chairperson, Arwai Christopher Obol, noted that the projects are funded by the School Facilitation Grant (SFG) and are currently in the procurement stage. He said the funding and implementation of the projects align with the district’s broader goal of strengthening educational infrastructure.
“The infrastructure initiative is part of Kitgum District’s strategic effort to enhance public primary education through targeted capital investments, creating an enabling learning environment,” Arwai said. “We are committed to ensuring the efficient and transparent execution of these projects for the benefit of the communities we serve.”
