Katakwi High School has implemented three infrastructure projects worth Shs249,238,892 from Welthungerhilfe, aimed at improving water and sanitation facilities for students and the surrounding community.
The German-based organization, active in Teso since 2018, funded the construction of six public water taps at Shs198,494,888, renovation of two latrine blocks at Shs18,952,452, and construction of a new latrine block costing Shs31,791,560.
George Alex Anam, project engineer for Welthungerhilfe in Teso, said the interventions were a collaborative effort requested by the school administration and emphasized the importance of maintaining the facilities to ensure their longevity.
Deputy Head Teacher Paul Atobo said the projects help bridge the infrastructure gap at the school, which currently has 1,607 students in total, including 533 in the hostels. He also acknowledged other civil society contributions, including SOCADIDO’s woodlot initiative and the Rotary Club’s fruit and coffee tree planting projects.
PTA Chair Joseph Otoke and parent Michael Ejulut praised the interventions, calling them a major success for the school’s growth.
