In a bid to reduce the momentum his opponent Haruna Kasolo had generated after Kiwanda and other opponents stepped down for him at Kololo, NRM CEC contestant Moses Karangwa quickly organized pocket change of Ugx2bn which was poured into delegates. This was just hours before voting for the central region vice chairman started.
The money was two serve two purposes one being watering down the vibe the defections had added to Kasolo’s camp and to also persuade delegates, who wanted to leave after voting for Kadaga and Among, to keep around and vote for the regional chairpersons too.
This money was adding on the Ugx25bn bwana Karangwa had already invested in the CEC vote. But to his dismay, the delegates quietly walked out of Kololo to go to look for where to rest from as soon as they got the addition cash. They didn’t accept to stay at Kololo up to late in the night because many of them were already exhausted by that time.
That’s how Karangwa, who had projected winning with over 7000 votes, ended up garnering only 3981 (47%) and lost to Kasolo who Tanga Odoi declared to have won with 4,194 votes. When the last vote was counted and tallied, it became clear he wasn’t winning and this sent Karangwa into a wailing session after which he collapsed from the chair where he was sitting.
He then walked away from the tent towards his car where he sat and wailed “woowe Mukama Katonda sente zange abasajja baziridde.” It loosely translates to mean “ooh my God my money is all gone, they have eaten it for nothing.”
He was eventually taken for checkup for his doctors to rule out any medical emergency and to confirm to his handlers that all was well.
Karangwa is a businessman with buildings in Jinja city and he is also a cattle farmer and land dealer, which is how he gets all this money, for those who have been wondering his source of dime. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
