A man in Kanungu District is in trouble with authorities after releasing a video in which he declared the beginning of his journey to end President Yoweri Museveni’s rule. The suspect, who only identified himself as Esau, is believed to be in his late 40s and a resident of Kamutungu Village in Nyakatunguru Ward, Kihihi Town Council.
On Sunday, May 25, 2025, Esau released a 3-minute and 39-second video from what appears to be an undisclosed forest. In the clip, he is seen wearing a civilian t-shirt, camouflage-style trousers, desert tan jungle boots, and armed with a brand-new machete. He proclaimed the start of a journey aimed at removing Museveni from power, warning that “the time for change has come whether people want it or not.”
Esau told Ugandans to stay informed, claiming he would announce when the journey officially begins within 48 hours. He said Uganda would be the starting point of his mission and described Museveni as the only obstacle in his path.
Though he insisted he does not hate Ugandans and does not like politics, Esau warned politicians—especially Museveni—to “stay alert and informed.” He added that both Uganda and the world would soon witness unprecedented events.
On Monday, a combined team of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers and police officers sealed off Esau’s home in Kamutungu Village and arrested him.
During the arrest, Esau was reportedly quoting the Bible, specifically referencing the Book of Genesis 27. Gaddie Rugaaju Ahimbisibwe, the Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner, confirmed the arrest and said Esau had been taken to Kihihi Police Station for questioning-URN.
