Here’s How NUP Bosses Make Money & a lot of it

Many NUP bosses have become rich quickly, in such a short time.

Many of them were paupers struggling to make ends meet, until after the 2021 elections. Today they are all wealthy, driving posh cars and owning expensive properties.

Secretary general Rubongoya, who barely had anything, today owns a fortune including an upcoming beach and recreation facility in Entebbe.

Fred Nyanzi, every month buys a plot of land at 70m-100m. He has a lot of it in Nakasajja and ex-VP Kazibwe’s neighborhood of Ddundu along Kalagi-Kayunga road.

Joel Ssenyonyi isn’t the poor journalist who resigned from NTV news room less than 5 years ago.

But how do they make money? They earn a monthly retainer equaling the salary of an MP.

This goes for all of them who sit in the national executive; Ben Katana, Rubongoya, Nyanzi, Kyagulanyi, his wife, Nubian Lee etc. Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro also gets something per month.

Apart from this monthly pay, the NUP bosses live off the billions the EC gives them under the IPOD framework. Every MP fetches them 100m per quarter every three months.

But they also use their party secretariat departments to chew money in facilitation for fictitious party activities. This is how the IPOD billions get chewed.

Someone has a work plan for his department, which gets allocated money.

This money is allocated and given but its never spent on the approved activities.

What happens is that a person like Nyanzi who heads mobilisation will go out in say Jinja for obscure mobilisation activities. He gets money from Kavule which he never spends.

Meal card politicians wanting the Kyagulanyi backing to win elections in their areas will donate money to fund that mobilisation activity which enables Nyanzi to keep all the money he was given for facilitation at Kavule and it can be some good money because he has frequent kunga activities all the time in Kampala, the districts, universities, city markets mbu informal sector mobilisation and also abroad.

Those foreign tours are funded by the diaspora chapters through fundraising yet Kavule will have released money and account to EC that way.

Those doing legal work eat in the same way. They will say we have a team of so many lawyers to defend the political prisoners and Kavule releases money yet in actual sense many of these young lawyers are volunteers hoping to catch the principal’s eye to get NUP ticket or endorsement at future elections.

The diaspora money is very little not as much as NRM propagandists like Frank Gashumba, Basajjamivule and Lubega Mukaku or Mabikke make it to seem.

Those diaspora men and women are very broke-just beggars and can’t raise much when they themselves don’t have even what to eat.

They can’t do much beyond buying the airticket for the principal and his juicy squeeze Barbie Itungo.

They are only good at sharing/tambuza video because in those countries and welfare states, data is almost free and internet connectivity very good. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
