Police in West Nile are investigating the circumstances under which five Congolese nationals are suspected to have trafficked 19 children into Uganda.
The incident occurred on Monday at a parking lot in Boma East in Nebbi district, where police officers from Goli Police station, upon a tip-off, intercepted the Congolese nationals from DRC who were travelling on foot with nineteen minors.
Collins Asea, the Police Spokesperson for West Nile, said all the suspects are residents of Mungere village, Mahagi Territory, Ituri province. “They were all taken to Goli police station where they were interrogated by police officers and representatives of the BISO and CMI services, and information gathered indicates that the group was heading to Ocea refugee camp in Terego district for registration.” Asea disclosed.
Asea warned parents against releasing their children to strangers who make offers to them.
