In what’s seen as a step in the right direction towards promoting electoral and political reforms in Uganda, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has held a cordial discussion with the National Consultative Forum (NCF), a body that unites all 26 registered political parties in the country.

Led by its National Coordinator, Rt. Hon. Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, the DA tabled proposals aimed at addressing leadership transition and electoral reforms. The proposals focus on six key legal regimes:
– Constitutional Amendment Act
– The National Transition and Reconciliation Act
– The Presidential Transition Act
– The Presidential Privileges and Immunities Act
– The National Devolution Act
– The Proportional Representation (National Electoral System) Act

Additionally, the DA has sought to introduce eight bills to Parliament, aiming to amend the following acts:
– The Presidential Elections Act
– The Parliamentary Elections Act
– The Local Government Elections Act
– The Political Parties and Organizations Act
– The Electoral Commission Act
– The Referendum Act

Hon. Godfrey Kiwanda, chairperson of the National Consultative Forum, commended the DA team for their proposals, stating that if addressed, passed, and implemented, they could resolve a multitude of political and leadership questions in the country.

The National Consultative Forum, established by Uganda’s Constitution, plays a crucial role in supporting registered political parties and guiding leadership. The DA’s efforts to promote electoral and political reforms are seen as a major step towards promoting democracy and good governance in Uganda. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
