The incumbent Jinja South East MP, Nathan Igeme has lost the National Resistance Movement-NRM flag to his former political assistant, Richard Mbazira.
Mbazira beat Igeme with 6070 votes against 2636 votes during the final vote counting at the NRM’s Jinja city hall tally center presided over by the party’s deputy registrar, Gorrette Akello.
Mbazira, the Jinja City male councilor representing southern division fell out with Igeme last year after he failed to step down to allow him sail through as the next parliamentary representative of the area.
Mbazira was the coordinator of Igeme’s campaigns. This endeared him to the electorate as he was serving as the linkage between them and their area MP, Igeme for close to 20 years.
However, Igeme says that, the polls were marred with irregularities.
Igeme notes that, his team has gathered incredible evidence detailing irregularities in the polling process, which he says contravenes with the primary concepts of transparency.
Igeme says that, there is need for a by-election in the area as voters were denied their full right to elect their leaders of choice without comprise.
Igeme says that, his lawyers are ready to petition the NRM’s electoral commission tomorrow, where they are hopeful of having their matters resolved with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, the former Jinja West MP, Moses Balyeku has defeated his closest rival, Daniel Kanu with 9020 against 2240 to win the NRM flag.
Other contestants in the race were David Talenga came in the third position with 78 votes whereas, the former Jinja resident city commissioner, Erick Sakwa trailed in the fourth position with 71 votes.
Balyeku promised to exhibit competitiveness, which will enable him to defeat his opposition counterparts during next year’s general elections.
Balyeku rallied all NRM supporters in Jinja South West to unite and extend their support towards him, as he extends fourth the ideology of household transformation through mobilizing them to engage in income generating projects.
This outcome was however, disputed by his close rival, Kanu who vowed to petition the party’s election body to organize a byelection in the area.
Kanu says that, the “egali,” ruled the game, with rowdy youths threatened voters from participating in the electoral process and there is need for a comprehensive review to ensure that the preferred choice of the electorates is declared a winner-URN.
