Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Arua City Council and West Nile local governments have launched a campaign ahead of the national World Tourism Day celebrations in Arua City.
The celebrations starting from 20th up to 28th September, will be hosted by Arua City under the theme: Tourism and Sustainable Transformation, highlighting the critical role Tourism plays in driving sustainable development and positive change across economies, societies and the environment.
As part of the preparations to highlight the importance and create awareness of the national celebrations, the leaders have launched a drive ahead of a series of activities.
David Kyasanku, the City Clerk of Arua, appeals to the people of West Nile, Uganda and in the diaspora to take advantage of the opportunity to showcase their talents, cultures and products and be part of the historical event.
Sam Wadri Nyakua, the Mayor of Arua City, describes the event as part of the national cake that the people of West Nile should take advantage of.
Phiona Dibareyo, the Assistant Resident City Commissioner, Arua Central Division, says security has been beefed up to ensure that the weeklong celebrations are held without any interruption from wrong elements.
According to security officials in the City and the region, all is set to ensure maximum security throughout and for all individuals who will participate in the Tourism Day celebrations in Arua City and the districts in W. Nile.
Over 5,000 guests are expected to attend, with many to come from DR Congo and South Sudan.
