A man in Luwero district has been stabbed to death by a bar attendant. This was because the attendant refused to share her phone number with him.

The incident occurred on Friday at around 9:30 pm at a Blue One bar located at Kakoola village in Kakinzi trading center in Luwero district along the Kampala – Gulu highway.

The deceased has been identified as Shaban Banduga, a resident of Kakinzi trading center. He was allegedly stabbed to death by Sumayiya Nayiga.

According to Brighton Ahimbisibwe, the Luwero District Police Commander, it is alleged that the fight stemmed from the man making love attempts to the woman, which she rejected.

Ahimbisibwe said this culminated in a fight before Nayiga picked up a knife and stabbed Shaban. He says that Nayiga was also rushed to Luwero hospital after sustaining injuries when youths attacked her for stabbing their colleague.

On Saturday morning, doctors had recommended that she be referred to Mulago Hospital for further management.

“Investigations into the death are ongoing, and the woman faces murder charges after she is discharged from the hospital”, Ahimbisibwe said

Samuel Musisi, a resident, narrated that it all started when Banduga, who was drunk, pestered the attendant to share her phone number with him, but she refused.

Musisi added that Banduga later attacked the attendant in her room and beat her.

“The attendant also responded by picking up a knife before she stabbed him in the chest. Banduga died on the way to the Luwero hospital. The angry youths also responded by beating up the woman again for stabbing their colleague, ” Musisi said.

Salim Zimula Sserunkuma, a local Parish Councillor, said that a postmortem has also been conducted before the Police released the dead body to the relatives for the burial.

“It’s sad for a young man to die in such circumstances. We have received the dead body and are transporting it to his ancestral home at Vvumba village in Butuntumula sub-county for burial,” Zimula said.

Cases of women killing men are common in Luwero district.

Godfrey Kamoga, aged 29 years old, a resident of Namawojja village, Zirobwe sub-county, was also stabbed to death in March this year by his wife, Shakira Mbabazi, after he accused her of committing adultery with his friend.

In December 2024, the Luwero Grade One Magistrate Court remanded Reginah Namande, a resident of Kyamufumba village in Butuntumula sub-county, after she fought with her husband Charles Bunjo and hit him with a stone in the stomach leading to his death.

The fight stemmed from allegations that Namande had an affair with another man. On the fateful day, the deceased, armed with a panga, chased Kyalufenge away from his home, accusing him of destabilising their marriage.

After returning home, Bunjo confronted Namande, who was reportedly singing provocative songs. A heated argument ensued, leading to a physical altercation during which Namande struck Bunjo in the lower abdomen with a stone, causing his death.

According to the Annual Crime Report, Luwero district registered 287 cases of domestic violence in 2024 and ranked in fifth position with the highest across the country.

In the same year, the district also registered 86 cases of homicide and ranked in second position with the highest cases across the country-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
