Outgoing Nakawa east MP Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga has been assuring confidants in NUP that his is going to be a sure win against lord mayor Erias Lukwago. He has called it a divine mission and personal assignment God gave to him in a dream when he encountered him sometime last year.
He says there is no way the Good Lord he worships and has followed his entire life since childhood can give him what he can’t handle. Indeed, to ensure he doesn’t ashame his God, Balimwezo has started on the assignment with enthusiasm and has been to several city divisions trying to create visibility through the garbage trucks and the ambulances he has deployed in the five Kampala divisions.
Saying God has convicted him to end the rule of Erias Lukwago over the people of Kampala, the former Nakawa division mayor has already been to several public places in Nakawa where he has been introducing Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro to the people as his preferred successor in 2026.
Some people have been asking him “haven’t you taken too much risk taking on Erias Lukwago?” and Balimwezo’s standard answer has been “we are winning this because it’s God who has deployed me to liberate Kampala city and I’m not in this simply because of Kyagulanyi.” The mood in Erias Lukwago’s camp remains that of defiance as the incumbent has over the years crippled several opponents some of whom were even stronger than Eng Balimwezo.
These include Peter Ssematimba who was very strong and nearly won; Raga Dee, Issa Kikungwe and more recently Nabillah Nagayi who he easily beat in 2021 even when she had the full backing of Kyagulanyi whose NUP wave was at its highest. Ali Nganda Mulyanyama and Latif Sebaggala are some of the other challengers Lukwago has had to overcome in the last few years.
