The Archbishop of the Provincial Church of Uganda, His Grace Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, has urged the youth to rise above the temptation of divisive, corrupt, and violent politics.
Speaking at the opening of the 9th Provincial Annual Youth and Students Convention at St James Cathedral, Ruharo Ankole Diocese, Kazimba asked the youth not to be used as instruments of chaos, tribalism, or misinformation.
The Convention that is being held for three days under the theme “Leadership that Imitates God’s Goodness”, drawn from Galatians 6:9-10.
He said that true leadership seeks the common good rooted in truth, justice, and peace.
Kazimba reminded them that their voice and vote matter during elections, but asked them to participate in politics with integrity and vote wisely.
“You also have a right to live, be the generation that transforms politics through service, not selfish gain, through principle, not power seeking, remember your voice matters.
The Host Bishop of Ankole Diocese, Rt Rev Sheldon Mwesigwa, said that the transformation of Ankole has been due to the Anglican Revival that came to Ankole in 1939.
He directed that the entry fee to the East African Revival Museum be reduced from 3000 per head to 1000 to allow the youth to learn about the Revival Mission.
The Keynote speaker at the convention, Melvin Karuhanga, the Executive Officer of Blue City Investments, asked the youth to have self-belief and regular health check-ups, noting that health is the biggest investment.
“Let us do regular checks, avoid sexual morality, excessive consumption of alcohol, smoking, bad vices, be consistent with good behaviour, self-discipline is very important and also avoid living above your means”.
Enid Mbasiime, a youth leader from North Kigezi diocese, said she expected not only to be nourished in spirit but also to be nurtured in her leadership skills.
Edson Mugume, another youth from Kinkizi Diocese, said this was his second convention to attend, but it has motivated him to stay a born-again and has learnt to be generous in all that he does.
The Convention is being attended by over 800 youth leaders from across the country.
During the opening, the Archbishop commissioned the new logo to be used by the Directorate of Youth and Students at the Provincial Church of Uganda.
