Another accident has claimed the lives of two pupils and left three others critically injured in Yumbe District. The incident occurred around 7:10 a.m. Wednesday morning at Odriga, Bileu Ward, Yumbe Town Council, along the Koboko-Yumbe Road.

The deceased have been identified as Majuma Queen, 6, and Manisur, 4, both pupils at St. Daniel Primary School, Yumbe. The injured include Andezo Faridah Ismail, 18, a Senior Three student at Aringa Secondary School, and Tairani, 10, a pupil at St. Daniel Primary School.

According to Yumbe Police, a black Toyota Wish (Registration: UA 033 AK) driven by Wajarasu Sharif, 20, a resident of Yumbe Town Council, collided with a Bajaj motorcycle (Registration: UG 5831C) ridden by Adiga Manisur, 42, from Giso Lobe Town Council. The motorbike was transporting two pupils to school.

It is alleged that the driver of the vehicle, traveling from Moyo, lost control at Odriga, colliding with the motorcycle and a pedestrian. One of the pupils was pronounced dead at the scene, and the vehicle overturned. Collins Asea, Police Spokesperson for North West Nile, confirmed the accident and attributed it to reckless driving.

“Both vehicles are currently parked at Yumbe Police Station pending inspection by the Investigating Officer, while the victims were rushed to Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital. The deceased bodies have been transferred to the hospital mortuary pending postmortem,” Asea said.

He urged all road users to adhere to traffic regulations and prioritize safety, especially as the roads to Yumbe, Koboko, and Moyo remain under construction. “We urge the public to take caution, and patience is highly advised,” he added. A case of reckless driving has been registered against the driver of the motor vehicle under Reference No. TAR 44/2025/TSD 03/26/11/2025.

Barely three weeks ago, another accident near Yumbe Hospital involving a motor vehicle and an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle claimed the life of Reverend Sister Lilly Driciru, who was knocked down while on a bodaboda en route to visit a relative at the hospital. The deteriorating state of most roads in the region continues to raise concerns about the increasing frequency of accidents along these routes.
