As the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) concluded its recruitment exercise in the Bukedi region, 38 recruits in Budaka District were arrested at the district headquarters for presenting fake academic documents. According to the UPDF, a total of 53 people have been arrested since the exercise began on August 5, 2025.
This year’s nationwide recruitment attracted 78,000 applicants, against a target of 11,500 recruits. Captain Edrin Mawanda, the Public Information Officer (PIO) for Recruitment Team Eight, which covers Teso and Bukedi regions, said the exercise in the area ended successfully.
Brig. Gen. Michael Ssozi Ssesanga, who is overseeing the exercise, emphasized that the recruitment process is progressing smoothly across the country. He warned that anyone found engaging in fraud or impersonation will face arrest and prosecution. He urged candidates to present original academic documents and avoid impersonation, stressing that such acts are both unlawful and criminal.
The physical recruitment exercise, which began on August 5, 2025, officially ended on August 15, 2025, at various recruitment centers across Uganda. UPDF officials have since described the exercise as successful.
